Date: 07 Nov 2001

I'm looking for information on Charles Louis Pilcher, also spelled Pelcher. He died in the Menard prison in 1945. I am a gr. grand daughter. I am trying to find out why he was sentenced and any other information. His wife Mary Elizabeth Buyatte had the marriage annulled in 1907. He was also tried and convicted to be insane. Another court record shows he defaulted payement for property on Lynns addition lot 5 and 6 on block 2. The Plantiff was Benjamin Stipe. This land I believe is very close to the Pierre Menard home. (Behind it). They all lived in Ft. Gage/Garrison Hill. I am researching his case to see if he was really insane/violent or if he was framed. My mom and I took a trip to the Randolph Co. Courthouse last week and we got some useful information. Just enough to keep our minds going...

Date: 06 Sep 2001

I am looking for information on GANT. WARREN, CRISLER. On April 3, 1890 my Great-Great Grandmother, MARY ANN (GANT) WARREN, traveled by steamboat from St. Louis Mo. to Chester Ill to visit her sister, MRS A.E CRISLER. She left word for the purser to wake her when they arrived. When they went to do so she was found dead in her stateroom. She was traveling with her 6 year old child who I believe was my Gr. Aunt Edna Irene Warren. A Coroner was called and a jury was summoned to determine the cause of death. I have written to the Randolph County Clerk but they do not have her death record. Does anyone know where else I might look for the death record or where the boat would have docked ? It seems there would be a court record of some kind. I believe the sister she was going to visit was Arletta Crisler. A Mr and Mrs. Thomas Gant came down from Bellville for the funeral and burial was at Palestine Cemetary. Is there a record of those buried at Palestine. I believe the other GANT pioneers were buried there. Any help would be appreciated. And Thank you to the lady who posted the newspaper excerpts on the home page. I have been looking for the death of Mary Ann for a long time. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw it.

THIS RESEARCH BY CLESTON CONNER of IL (email: cleston@wworld.com ) This outline of the family constructed by Harold Keisling of TN ( email: halsheritage@tnaccess.com from Cleston,s notes, messages etc. Some information still needs concrete proof. Note that Kaskaskia, Randolph Co., Illinois and Prairie Du Rocher Randolph Co., Illinois are about 10-12 miles apart. This area is in the western part of IL adjoining the Mississippi River. This area in IL was first settled by the French. Marriages have conflicting data on the IGI files found, but a book "RANDOLPH COUNTY, MARRIAGES 1807 Through 1850" by Lola Crowder was also used. Whenever a conflict data of the marriages occurred the Randolph Co. Marriages was deemed to be more accurate. Work is continuing. This data is considered to be 90% accurate and is as of 26 Mar 2001. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- James Conner b. 1792-1794 born in Botetourt Co. VA , Moved to Cumberland Co. KY with his parents, Lawrence Conner and Margaret Blane in about 1806. He served in the War of 1812 from Cumberland Co. KY as a private. He moved to IL after Nov 4,1813 when he was on a war roll in Limestone KY. He married Charlotte Doyle on June 5, 1816 in Randolph Co. IL. She was the daughter of John Doyle and --- . ( Kaskaskia was established by the French, see history of Randolph Co. John Doyle, Frenchman, and Clark made an expedition in 1778 to the area. John Doyle settled near Kaskaski, Randolph Co IL ). James Conner was in the Black Hawk War. Troops were mustered into the Black Hawk War in Randolph County. A company was organized at Kaskaski Illinois 25th of May 1832.James Conner was one of those troops. He was mustered in as a First Lieut. He was promoted to a Captain on 25th July 1832. This unit was the Third Regiment, Third Brigade,Illinois Mounted Volunteers.Called into service order of General Atkinson for service in the Black Hawk War. The unit was later called the James Conner Brigade. They were mustered out of the service 2nd August 1832. There our about twenty court records concerning him in Randolph Co. IL. The last court record showing James is in 1844.Charlotte was still living in 1850 as she was listed in that census.Name Age Sex Place of Birth Charlotte Connor 55 F Ill Minerva Lynch 32 F " Henry " 12 M " Charlotte " 9 F " This was taken at Randolph County Prairie Du Rocher Pg. 100 The 1820 Census Randolph Co. IL shows James male over 25 and in the same household is 5 others, free white. There are no slaves. The 5 others are his wife and the 4 girls unless one or more children died in infancy. This accounts for the differences in the ages the 1820 census vs the IGI files. James and Charolett Doyle had five known children four girls and a boy. 1. Minerva C.Conner born Abt. 1817 Kaskaskia, Randolph Co., Illinois. She married Daniel C Lynch 29th Dec 1835 in Randolph Co. Daniel C Lynch was a school teacher at the Shiloh School in Jackson Co. Il. He had died by the year 1850. Minerva was living back home with her mother Charlotte Conner in the 1850 census. Minerva had children Henry 12 and Charlotte 9 years old in 1850 they were living in Prairie Du Rocher. 2. Amanda Conner born Abt. 1818 (1819 by IGI) Kaskaskia, Randolph Co., Illinois. She married Leon Vion 17th May 1838 in the 1850 Randolph census it lists Leon Vion 36 years old. a merchant worth $2000.00 born in France.his wife Amanda.30 born in Illinois. Their children Adelaida Vion 10 yrs born Il, Cecelia Vion 8 yrs born Il. Julia Vion 4 yrs born Il. Ellenstine Vion 1yr.born Il. They later moved to St.Genevia Mo. Leon was listed in the 1870 census in that county. Amanda had evidently died before 1870. Only one of her children has been found, Adelaide Vion. Adelaide Vion married Jean Theodore Papin in 7 Nov1858. Their children are: Leon Louis Papin b. 15 Nov 1859 d. 15 Oct 1860, Zoe Papin, Sophie Papin b. 15 Jan 1867 d. 13 Dec 1923 Montecito ?, Elise Papin abt 1868 d. 7 Jan 1941 NY, Rene Vion Papin b. abt 1872 d. 20 Mar 1920, Grace Papin 9 May 1874 in St. Louis MO d 4 May 1957 in Los Angeles, Joseph Vion Papin b. 1876 d. 2 Jan 1945 in St. Genevieve MO buried in Calvary Cem St. Louis MO., Adele Papin b. 1878 d. 1920. 3. Eliza Conner born Abt. 1819 (1821 by IGI) Randolph Co., Illinois. She married Michael Lasource 27th Feb. 1843 Michael Lasource had also died by 1850. In the 1850 Randolph Co. Census Eliza Lasource was living alone in Prairie Du Rocher with children Josephine 6 yrs born Il. Maria L. 3yrs born Il, and Thaddeus 1 born Il. Eliza Conner Lasource remarried 22nd April 1854 to John L Taylor. They are listed in the 1860 Randolph Co. Census as John L Taylor 35 yrs. Born in Pennsylvania. Trade millwright. Eliza Conner Taylor 35 yrs Josephine 16 yrs Thaddeus 11 yrs and Rebecca Taylor 4 born Il. They lived in township 5 range 8. 4. Maria Conner (AKA Marie ) born Abt. 1820 (1823 by IGI) Kaskaskia, Randolph, Illinois. She married Franklin W. Brickey 28th Jan 1847 according to one IGI file. Then according to another IGI file he married Emily J. Conner in 28 Jan 1847 in Prairie Du Rchr Mo. This last entry is suspect as Prairie Du Rocher was in Randolph Co. IL, not Mo. Emily Conner is the daughter of Henry Conner who lived in the same county but was from MD not KY, no relation to James Conner. ( This information for Henry Conner from Connie Dorsey of Mo. ) Emily Conner should have been older than Maria Conner. According to another source, a book written by a Juanita Brooks on the life of John D. Lee, Maria Conner was born 12/25/1825? and died Jan.8 1849. One child was born to this union of Maria Conner and Franklin W. Brickey: Mary Louise born 12/31/1848 and Mary Louise died 10/22/1849. The 1850 Randolph Census shows his wife as Sara J. in 1850. Now we have 3 different names for the wife of Franklin W. Brickey. Sara J. is born around 1828 and this does not seem likely to be either of the two. It is appears to me that someone has made another error in the IGI files. Brickey, Frank. 27 MO. ( born in about 1823 this is close to birth date of Maria Conner) Sarah J. 22 IL According to another IGI file he married on 17 Jan 1850 a woman named Sarah Jane Brightwell Washington Co. Mo. This is the one on the 1850 census as it should be. It is Concluded that Mira (AKA Marie) Conner died before 1850. No further data. 5. John Edgar Conner born Abt. 1825 Kaskaskia, Randolph Co. , Illinois. He is said to have gone on to Kansas where he became a prosperous and influential citizen of that state. No other data at this time.

my father, charles e. william cole was born on 11/25/1947 in randolph county, eden, illinois. he was adopted by helen and nathaniel cole. his birth record was delayed and there is no mention of a hospital on the certificate. i am guessing it was a private adoption not only because of the certificate information but because helen and nat were both 46 when they adopted my father. i believe the birth mother may have been a relative or close family friend of helen's. i'm trying to find out any information on the harris family possible. helen's full name is helen agnes harris and she was born unto neal and anna harris in 1901. i'm thinking maybe she had a family member who gave birth to charles and they adopted him. any information on the harris family in randolph county would be greatly appreciated. i'm hoping this is the proper place to enter my query. any information you provide would be GREATLY appreciated. thank you, dawn mcpartland
